Extended & Advanced Skills Placements

General Practice Training Tasmania (GPTT) offers many exciting and challenging placements to support GP training.  Opportunities include Extended Skills Placements (ESP for RACGP registrars), Advanced Rural Skills Training (ARST for RACGP registrars) and Advanced Specialised Training (AST for ACRRM registrars).

Extended Skills Placement training offers an opportunity to gain experience in areas of health and medicine that are relevant to general practice and of special interest to the registrar.  All FRACGP registrars must complete the requirement of extended skills training during their training.  The requirement can be met in a number of different ways and in different settings.  Please discuss your individual training plan with your designated medical educator or Dr Lachlan Fieldhouse, Director of Training at lachlan.fieldhouse@gptt.com.au

Skills Placements For GP Registrars

Extended Skills Placements may be based in a general practice, hospital or community post setting.  Extended Skills Placements in hospitals are usually taken for six months full time (four days per week over six months), or a minimum of two sessions per week over 6 months in general practice or in a community post.
