Aboriginal Cultural Camp

The Aboriginal Cultural Camp is held in November at Trawtha Makuminya, hosted by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre (TAC) attended by GPs from across Tasmania .

Trawtha Makuminya is in the central highlands of Tasmania, near Bronte Park and has significant Aboriginal historical and cultural value. Camp participants are privileged to be welcomed with a smoking ceremony; listen to Dougie Mansell’s moving and talented singing and playing of his guitar; walk the land and see the endemic Eucalyptus gunnii (cider gum); see stone tools made and used by Aboriginal people many years ago; practice basket-weaving and making water carriers; and witness first-hand the healing nature of the land for Tasmanian Aboriginals.

Participants will experience unique cultural immersion relating to both the historical and contemporary Tasmanian Aboriginals. A time for connection with great people and a special land.
