On Monday 30 January we welcomed the Assistant Minister for Health, the Hon Dr David Gillespie MP, Senator Jonathan Duniam, President of the RACGP, Dr Bastian Seidel and former President of ACRRM, Dr Lucie Walters to GPTT’s GP Registrar Orientation.
The Minister announced the selection of medical graduates for the AGPT program will now be administered by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).
GPTT is working with both the Colleges and the Department on the implementation of this new model. Both Colleges will have a different selection model which be implemented in a similar time frame.
Three phases will exist which include an initial application to the Department of Health for eligibility. This will result in an application to the preferred College. A fee will then be charged by each College to the candidate and an assessment will be undertaken. A final stage will include GPTT conducting a selection interview.
GPTT will keep you up to date as all Selection details are rolled out. The RACGP and ACRRM are updating their websites with these new details and please refer to these resources for further information and updates.
